It would be a surprise, indeed. They don't have a very solid record in being "clean", much less caring about it.
It has yet to be proven that the huge Three Gorges Dam project will not come back to haunt them in various ways - the fact that the dam sits on a seismic fault, for one.
They run to 'solutions' when they need to think first.

Why do you think China exploded on the world scene in economics? The Gnomes of finance invested there because of the lack of enviromental controls and cheap labor. I have been to China 5 different times and they have very beautiful cities there but they also have a number of arm pits.

China is also using solar and other green energy. They are now operating giant solar plant. So they are inovative in the green energy. India using CNG for buses and Rickshaw. India is now having Six new Hydro powers plants, getting oil from elgy grown in most remote area and other sources. So it is egoestic to say we are going to clean their clock. China is cleaning our clock by supporting the trillons of dollar debt. And the way congress and Obama administration spending money it will be 6 to 8 trillion dollars. So china will own USA in few years, then tell me Who is cleaning the clock"?

Agree! China has leverage over their citizens to clean-up the US doesn't have. There is little discussion or big-time opposition. They are already spending more than $300B. It is also obvious that China is way ahead of the US in the Green industries. We need to be building, on a large scale, wind turbines, solar cells, and state-of-the-art batteries for EV's.
Whether posters agree on environmental issues...not too many disagree on our need to jump-start industry....and that will take investment capital as well as entrepreneurs and excellent engineers.
